MUD Update: Waiting on new codebase feedback
I need to start organizing all my MUD updates
Dawn1.69r
DSv3 with Dawn1.69s_Beta6
LOT1.1 Dawn Derivative
You can see, I'm dead-set on using the Dawn of Time codebase. I was blown away by it's flexibility, capabilities and ease of use, while utilizing some of the most recent MUD-coding advancements.
I have yet to find a codebase I like better.
What's currently going on
Currently, I've been letting the original Dawn1.69r codebase run from my home Windows PC, to beta test. It comes with an up-and-running game already to go, so anyone can freely create a character and play, but every aspect of what it is now will be gone, once I finish planning and start implementing.
What to do
I've still been planning, when I can, but actual code-implementation has been on hiatus for awhile now.
This is do to my discovery of two Dawn variants that I am trying to track down.
DSv3 with Dawn1.69s_Beta6
This is the codebase used for the now defunct MUD "Darkening Sun II". It not only uses a later update(although it's a Beta) with many fixes to the 1.69r, it also has over 10 years of additional development by the DS crew. The DS crew have also stated that they made sure to track progress and note any changes, and how they made those changes, over the years. They wanted to keep the integrity of Dawn, and with that in mind, they say it installs and runs like Dawn and can even use a number of Dawns files.
This is the codebase I'm very anxious to get my hands on. Especially after seeing how they've programmed there "news" system(s).
I thought I was very lucky to find the original developer offering a link to download it and use it freely, and the post was only a few weeks old, but sadly it was a dead link and the two email addresses associated with the devs came back with mailer daemons.
I have one more contact email that a mystery person sent me via PM that I will be sending off tonight. So my fingers are crossed. I really want this.
LOT1.1
This is the codebase for the game Whispers of Times Lost, which now appears to be dead and gone.
Someone recently answered a query I had and said MUDbytes Community has it, but I can't find it.
The person said they felt LOT1.1 has more to offer, but I have no other info to go on.
I'm going to try and track down more info, for sure, though.
I'll be cross-posting this on #thejeremiahexperiment forum.
Sorry it's taking so long, but I have been learning and discovering and coming up with a wealth of new information and ideas. (That's a lot of 'ands')
